So, I know you're all wondering...what does a super chill guy like me do on a typical Saturday night? If you've read my post "How to deal with agreeable people..." you know answering that question would clearly break rule #4. But, just this once and only because I know how much it would mean to my loyal readers, I'm willing to put my air of inapproachability at risk...
Here's the blueprint...my beautiful wife had a "girls night out" scheduled for tonight with some people I don't know...actually not sure if she knew them either (yet she found this appealing...in some ways me and her are very different people). Anyway, you know what that means...I was free to get totally crunk.
Started off the craziness by going out to dinner with my parents at California Pizza Kitchen, one of my favorite spots. Went with the traditional spinach and artichoke pizza and half field greens salad. Can't go wrong with that...in fact, I'm very predictable when it comes to ordering at restaurants. But, I read in a book once (a Malcolm Gladwell book, I think...but not sure) that ordering your favorite item at a restaurant every time brings you more pleasure (in the long run) than going for variety. I agree wholeheartedly with that research (and let's give thanks that someone finally had the wherewithal to get to the bottom of that vexing problem).
Next up was a little animal card memory versus my youngest niece. Happy to report that I wiped the floor with her...racking up a 4-0 record for the evening. She's not bad...but tends to get distracted. I noticed her weakness early on and pounced on it like a hyena on a fresh carcass. When it comes to games, I show no mercy. I don't care who you are...or if you're three years old.
After my triumph, my mom and I were treated to a dance program by two of my nieces. I would describe it as classical-interpretive dance with hip-hop and jumping off of chair elements. The timing was a little off at times and the communication between cast members left something to be desired, but overall it was quite moving.
Capped off the night with a little light reading. I'm re-reading a novel called Seven Types of Ambiguity by Elliot Perlman. Very well-written book. And quite hefty...so it looks impressive when you're carrying it around.
Anyway, I think that sums it up nicely. My wife is home and sleeping (she works tomorrow) and I'm blogging. Hope you all weren't too blown away by my crazy lifestyle. All the hard partying can get tiresome...but the constant thrills are more than worth it...
